There are not many feasible ways to live permanently on the water with many other people.
Something that looks like a cruise ship is about the only way. However, this is not a cruise, it’s mine and 1000 other people’s permanent residence.
Built from scratch the MV Narrative will have nearly everything a small town would have. Cruise ships often do as well, but they aren’t made for people to stay. They don’t have real schools, scientific research centers, a farm, maker spaces(I’ve had input), long term medical, corporate HQ’s, kitchens, etc. such as the Narrative has.
Cruise ships move people fast, it’s how they make money. Storylines will be paid from the collective residents fund and hence has no need to move fast. Stays in port will be 3-5 days, we’ll stay in a region for months. Also going under 10 knots(cruise ships do 40) to save on fuel.
One of the down sides for me is that the Narrative will have to dock at cruise ship terminals often. Where else are you going to park it? However, I’m accepting this and other sacrifices for the sake of being in a different port every week without having to leave home.
On vacation, such as the river cruises I’ve been on, I’m motivated to go on every excursion and do every pre-paid thing. Which is exhausting. I expect, after some adjustment, that I’ll be able to set a doable pace. I don’t have to leave my residence and there is a fair chance we’ll end up back at said place eventually. We hope to circumvent the globe every 3 ½ years or so.
